Anderson Valley Health Center

Boonville, CA - Completed 2008

The Health Center rests on a two acre parcel one mile west of the small rural town of Boonville in Mendocino County. The project includes both additions to and renovation of the existing Anderson Valley Health Clinic.

The new structure adds dental services, mental health and substance abuse services, a multipurpose room, records storage and office spaces, as well as alternative medicine services. At the West end of the existing structure a new addition accommodates the Anderson Valley Volunteer Ambulance Services and EMT staff.

The original clinic was built in 1983 utilizing passive solar techniques. The present project seamlessly integrates the original and new structures. One challenge to the design team and contractor was to keep the clinic in operation during construction. Energy efficiency was a high priority, along with low maintenance and low operating costs.

The project is expected to achieve LEED Gold. This non-profit community health center succeeded in raising over half of the construction budget from the local community. Additional funding came from the USDA Rural Development Program.

We are so very pleased with the design and functionality of our recently expanded health center. Verdier Architects worked with us from the design phase through the construction process to create an excellent and highly successful new “Green” building.”

Judith Dolan, Executive Director, Anderson Valley Health Center

We got to know Ron & Steve for over a year prior to the start of construction on the Anderson Valley Health Center project. During this time we worked closely with them and the engineers to fine tune the project into something that fit the owners' needs and budget.

Once construction started, their experience and willingness to work through the inevitable issues associated with keeping the facility open for business while going though a major remodel and addition proved invaluable to the successful, timely, and under-budget completion of the project.”
